Like Hydrogen, Natural Gas is a “lighter than air” gas that uses similar fueling systems. Unlike other alternative fuels, Hydrogen (H2) and Natural Gas (CH4) can be blended to reduce vehicle emissions by an additional 50%.

I Want to Save the World...

The exhaust emissions from a typical Natural Gas Vehicle, or NGV, are far lower than the emissions from gasoline-powered vehicles.  Honda's Civic GX (a NGV) is recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as the cleanest commercially available internal-combustion vehicle on earth.  NGV's produce little or no evaporative emissions during fueling or use in comparison with gasoline-powered vehicles which realize that emissions produced during fueling and/or use account for at least 90% of the vehicle's total hydrocarbon emissions.

NGV's can reduce exhaust emissions of carbon monoxide by 70%, non-methane organic gas by 87%, nitrogen oxide by 87% and carbon dioxide by nearly 20% less than gasoline-powered vehicles.

According to the NGVA (Natural Gas Vehicles for America) website:  "Per unit of energy, natural gas contains less carbon than any other fossil fuel, and thus produces lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per vehicle mile traveled. While NGV's do emit methane, another principle greenhouse gas, any increase in methane emissions is more than offset by a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions compared to other fuels.  Tests have shown that NGV's produce up to 20 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than comparable gasoline vehicles and up to 15 percent less than comparable diesel vehicles."

Natural Gas is significantly cheaper than gasoline or diesel fuel.  In some parts of the country, natural gas is less than $1 per gallon.

Our country's second largest natural energy resource is natural gas.   Currently 98% of the natural gas used in America is produced in North America while 70% of our oil is imported from foreign countries.  Less than 1% of America's natural gas is currently used for transportation.

The U.S. Department of Energy releases a periodic report on Alternative Fuel Pricing as compared to gasoline prices.  In April 2008, CNG was the lowest priced alternative fuel by comparison to gasoline, diesel, ethanol, propane and biodiesel.

Over the last decade and a half, natural gas on an energy-equivalent basis has been between 25%-40% cheaper than crude oil, providing a clear and definite cost savings to users.

Not only does fueling with natural gas save money on your travel costs, but because natural gas is a domestic fuel it helps to keep money in the American economy - something that is sorely needed during these troubled times.

Saving money on fuel goes further than a simple cost comparison between natural gas and gasoline or diesel.  As a consumer, you also want to take into account the reduced maintenance expenses.  Natural gas is so clean that oil changes are much less frequent and your engine runs longer on a cleaner burning fuel.
